EXPLORE OUR WORK

Human Dignity Trust

In 2023, Barbury is working with the Human Dignity Trust to evaluate its Changing Laws, Changing Lives programme. The programme supports LGBT legal reform efforts, including decriminalisation, equal opportunities and hate crimes legislation in the Caribbean, Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa regions. Across these regions, we are engaging with both grassroots organisations and senior political stakeholders to understand the programme’s impact and to identify opportunities to enhance its efficacy.

Malteser International

In 2022, Jo and Hannah delivered an extensive research project for Malteser International into its work in Kayin and Rakhine states in Myanmar, and the impact of this work on people with disabilities, in collaboration with a local PwD expert. We designed and managed a household survey across the two states, managing two large enumerator teams to collect more than 2,100 survey responses in 18 villages. This project worked with the Washington Group Questions to firstly quantify the prevalence of disability within the study communities and then to investigate the key barriers to mobility and access these individuals faced. The training included modules on disability awareness rights, and inclusion, led by Barbury’s associate partner, a disability rights activist from Myanmar.

Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network

In 2022, Barbury joined with the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network to conduct a stakeholder mapping of over 120 displacement organisations in Myanmar, India and Thailand. Barbury’s Director of Operations and a local researcher colleague conducted field research along the Thai-Myanmar border. Our final report included a Social Network Analysis of the connections and co-operation between actors in this space, and the final report made recommendations to the Network on how to deepen their engagement in advocating for displaced people in the region.
